Project Overview
The Lewis Wind Power Wind Farm has the aim of stimulating the local economy through the provision of private sector jobs and the buying of goods and services from local businesses. This will run throughout the construction and will carry on during the planned life of the wind farm. Estimated job creation includes 430 jobs that will be supported during the 4 year construction period. Jobs related to operation are 71 full time equivalents (FTE’s) and a further 233 FTE jobs supported during the 20 year lifetime (Note: Full Time Equivalent: Treasury convention that 10 person years of employment is approximately equal to 1 FTE job).
The project aims to support the development of wind turbine manufacture and assembly at Arnish Yard. It is thought the wind farm could inject a significant amount of annual revenue into the local economy through rental/crofter payments and payments direct to the communities. Estimated minimum annual revenues include:
- £1.7 million Crofter Payments
- £1.7 million Rental Payments
- £1.85 million Community Benefit Payments
